Ingredients
Scale
- 4 slices dark whole grain bread, toasted
- 8 oz of cream cheese, separated
- food colors of choice or natural alternatives (see post)
Suggested Toppings:
- honey
- assorted fruit like blueberries and strawberries
- sprinkles
- edible flowers
- nuts
Instructions
- Lay the toast on your work surface and spread a thick layer of plain cream cheese on top.
- With the remaining cream cheese separated into small bowls, add 1-2 drops of gel food color in your desired colors in each bowl. Stir to combine and add more color to get your desired shade.
- Now have fun – roughly spread different colored cream cheese onto the toasts. Start slow (a little color goes a long way) and make sure you spread each color in the same direction. The more the colors mix, the more they will turn into one uniform color (this is how I messed up my first 2 toasts). The white cream cheese base will make it easier to swirl each color, if you choose.
- Top with sprinkles, blueberries or strawberries, nuts, or edible flowers. If you like sweet cream cheese, drizzle some honey on top and enjoy!
Notes
Some fun color combinations are blue & purple, blue & green, green & yellow, yellow, orange and red, red & purple.
Try to keep the colors in the same family. Combinations like red & green, purple & yellow, blue & orange are a fast way to get to brown. Tread carefully!
